A quiet weekend that still counts as a trip
A trip does not have to be packed to be a trip. A quiet weekend, a town with one good walk and a table you sit at twice, can do more for you than a city you cross off a list. Leisure is the point. The itinerary can be thin.
What to book
A room you are happy to spend a morning in, because the weather might ask you to. A table on Saturday night so the evening has a shape. A train or a drive you already know the length of. Skip the attraction that needs a timed ticket unless you truly want it. The weekend is allowed to be a change of rooms and a change of streets.
How to spend the day
Walk until you are hungry. Eat. Read for an hour without calling it wasted. If there is water, a market, or a park, use that and ignore the brochure. A quiet weekend fails when you fill it out of guilt. You did not come to optimise. You came to be somewhere else at a slower speed.
Coming back
Leave a little energy for the journey home. The sign it worked is that you would do the same town again in the rain, not that you saw everything once. Leisure you have to recover from was not leisure. A small trip that sends you home rested still counts.
